Morocco was elected a member of the new Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Electricity for the 2024-2026 term on Monday in Cairo during the 15th meeting of the Council, according to Morocco’s News Agency (MAP).
The Moroccan delegation included Morocco’s Ambassador to Cairo and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Mohamed Aït Ouali, representatives from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.
During the meeting, the Arab Common Electricity Market opened, an historic event reflecting the depth of Arab cooperation in the area.
Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen signed the agreement for the Arab Common Electricity Market. The initiative represents a strategic step toward achieving Arab integration with respect to electricity.
The launch of the Arab Common Electricity Market embodies a shared Arab vision to promote cooperation in energy. It ushers in a new phase that leverages shared generation and transmission capabilities, serving the interests of Arab nations and their people.
