Moroccan customs and police officers thwarted a drug smuggling attempt on Friday at the Bab Sebta crossing point and seized a substantial 39 kg of cannabis resin, a customs official said.
Customs officers at the export terminal, working alongside police and a canine unit, found the drugs meticulously concealed as bricks within a specially constructed compartment hidden along the floor of a Germany-registered vehicle.
The vehicle was driven by a Moroccan expatriate holding a Dutch passport, who was reportedly preparing to exit the national territory.
The authorities confiscated both the vehicle and the illicit substances.
The driver is now in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
