Morocco, represented by its Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, expressed support for the UN Security Council’s adoption of resolution 2735, which calls for a three-phase ceasefire in Gaza and includes a “major multi-year reconstruction plan” in Palestine.
At a press briefing in Rabat on Tuesday, Bourita underlined that Morocco applauds the text, calling for “an immediate, comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” as well as a “complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the return of all displaced populations.”
The official named the resolution a “positive step” towards ending a long-lasting conflict, in line with the call of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, for an immediate and long-term cessation of hostilities. The Monarch also calls for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid through all crossing points into Gaza and the rejection of any population displacement, while recognizing the Gaza Strip as an integral part of the Palestinian territories.
“Morocco hopes that all parties will comply with the terms of this resolution to put an end to the suffering of civilians after eight months of destructive war in Gaza,” Bourita concluded.
