Ten people died and 12 others were injured in a road accident on Sunday afternoon on Regional Road No. 302 at Douar Imentlat, in the commune of Ait Boulli (Azilal, central Morocco), local authorities reported.
Among the ten fatalities, eight died immediately, while two others died later from their injuries on the way to Azilal’s provincial hospital.
The accident occurred when a minibus, transporting dozens, overturned after sliding into a ravine, the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) reported.
Local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie, and the Civil Protection officials moved to the scene quickly after being notified to respond with necessary measures, provide rescue operations and assist those in need.
The Royal Gendarmerie launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the fatal accident, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. Meanwhile, the accident is believed to have been the result of poor maintenance of the vehicle’s braking system.
According to local reports, five of the people who died in the crash were teachers. Following the incident, Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of Education, offered his condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
