Amb. Samira Sitail Says Morocco’s Humanitarian Aid to Gaza is Steeped in Tradition

Morocco’s ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, discussed the significance of Morocco’s sending humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip by land, terming the gesture as a long tradition of solidarity with Palestinians, particularly in the context of the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

In an interview with French channel France Info on Saturday, Sitail told journalist Julien Benedetto that Morocco was the first country to dispatch 40 tons of foodstuffs, mainly for infants and toddlers, by land.

She explained that the Palestinian authorities and the Palestinian Red Crescent are tasked with the distribution of food items upon arrival.

“This marks a significant breakthrough on the humanitarian front, as this is an unprecedented land route whose use was made possible thanks to our relations with Israel, to Morocco’s credibility and to the weight of Al Quds committee, chaired by the King,” she stated.

Addressing concerns about the resumption of relations between Morocco and Israel, Sitail asserted that “relations with Israel” do not undermine the Palestinians’ right to an independent state, reiterating Morocco’s role as a mediator and a peace advocate.

The Ambassador addressed Egypt’s closure of the Rafah crossing, explaining that Morocco also refuses any forced displacement of Palestinians.

“We also refuse what Egypt has refused. We reject the displacement of Palestinian populations or any acts that prevent them from residing where they belong. Morocco opposes the relocation of Palestinians; their rights are inalienable. They are entitled to a Palestinian state in which they can live safely along with Israel,” she stated.
