The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has appointed Tarik Sektioui as the new head coach for Morocco’s Olympic Football Team (U23 national team), according to a statement from the federation on Thursday.
Succeeding Issam Charaï, who has led the team since November 2022, the former Atlas Lion leaves his current position as coach of the Maghreb Fassi football club since July 2023, to begin a new chapter with the Olympic team.
The FRMF expressed gratitude to Charaï for leading the U23 squad to victory at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July 2023, after clinching its place in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The appointment of Sektioui furthers the National Team Selection Committee’s objective to foster coordination and exchange among technical staff across all national team categories.
Morocco will compete with 15 other national teams, including Egypt and Mali, for the Olympic football tournament set to take place from July 24 to August 10, 2024. Matches will be held across various French cities, including Paris, Nantes, Saint-Etienne, Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Nice.
