The wife of France’s President, Brigitte Macron, received Morocco’s Princess Lalla Meryem, Princess Lalla Asmae, and Princess Lalla Hasnaa at the Elysee Palace in Paris for a special luncheon on Monday.
The luncheon was part of cementing the ongoing historical friendship between the kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, according to Morocco’s official news agency MAP.
The Elysee confirmed, posting on its official Instagram account a picture of the princesses and the First Lady with the caption, “Continuing the historical friendship between France and the Kingdom of Morocco, Madame Brigitte Macron received the Royal Highnesses Princesses Lalla Meryem, Lalla Asmaa and Lalla Hasnaa.”
France’s foreign minister, who assumed office only on January 12, said earlier this month that President Macron had asked him to be “personally” involved in the revival of French-Moroccan ties and start “a new chapter” in the bilateral relationship that has been strained over the past two years.
The French FM reiterated France’s support for Morocco’s Sahara issue and the need to move forward on bringing France and Morocco closer.
