Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) renewed its confidence in head coach Walid Regragui, and expressed its continued support for his position as the National Team Manager, said FRMF in a statement on Monday.
The FRMF stated that its president, Fouzi Lekjaa, attended multiple discussions about the Moroccan national team’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The meetings reviewed the preparation stages for the competition, its outcomes, and the disappointment felt by all components of Moroccan football, FRMF stated, alluding to the Atlas Lions’ Round of 16 loss to South Africa during the AFCON tournament.
Identifying the shortcomings during the competition, Lekjaa emphasized the importance of continuing to give the Atlas Lions the “deserved status to delight the Moroccan fans in upcoming competitions, especially the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations, (which will be) hosted by Morocco.”
In conclusion, the Federation reiterated its belief in Regragui’s ability to lead the Atlas Lions to the next level, offering him all of the resources he needs to attain the merited stature for Moroccan football.
Regragui and the Atlas Lions came under fire after Morocco’s Round of 16 loss to South Africa.
As Morocco’s National Team coach since August 31 2022, Regragui managed to lead the team to the 2022 Qatar World Cup semifinals against France, earning 4th place in the competition, as he enabled the team to obtain a FIFA world ranking of #13.
