Major General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, received Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPO) on Thursday, following directives of King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and FAR Chief.
The reception took place at the FAR General Staff Administration in Rabat with senior FAR military officials in addition to a UN delegation, according to a FAR General Staff press release.
The UN official arrived in Morocco on Wednesday in his first official visit which is planned for two days.
In a meeting with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, LaCroix recognized the kingdom’s substantial commitment to UN peacekeeping operations since its independence.
He applauded the Royal Armed Forces’ achievements in African peacekeeping deployments.
He praised Morocco’s critical commitment to peacekeeping operations, as well as its significant support for projects supporting the UN’s peacekeeping and crisis responses.
He also paid tribute to the 60 Moroccan soldiers who died in the line of duty.
