Former Senior Adviser to Trump Jared Kushner described, in his book “Breaking History: A White House Memoir”, the stance of King Mohammed VI on the Moroccan Sahara as decisive and firm.
Kushner regretted that the King’s visit to the United States was postponed because of John Robert Bolton’s maneuvers, adding that Bolton has been harboring hatred toward the Kingdom since the days of James Baker (1990) and submitted a proposal to prolong the Sahara dispute.
In his book, Kushner focused on the resumption of ties between Morocco and Israel, the conclusion of the Abraham Accords, and the steadfast position of the King in favor of peace.
Kushner highlighted the strong relationship between the King and crown prince Moulay El Hassan, and commented on the latter’s mature behavior.
King Mohammed VI and Kushner had a conversation on the Sahara, during which the sovereign underlined the importance of the Sahara as a part and parcel of the country’s history and as a matter of national security.
Trump’s administration was convinced that the Sahara is a Moroccan territory that was under Spanish colonization, and that is why it acted as such, he recalled.
Kushner stressed Morocco’s claim over the Sahara is legitimate, highlighting that, unlike its neighbors, Morocco is a stable country with a solid economy.
