As protests in Iran against the killing of Kurdishwoman Mahsa Amini, which began in mid-September, neared their second month, calls renewed for new protests today.
Young people from the districts of Tehran, Lorestan, and Tabriz provinces have called for new protests at night across the country.
These groups said in statements on social networking sites that they “will not stop until complete victory.” “They will stay in the streets until the fall of the Islamic Republic,” they assured.
“The call came as protests continued in many areas of the country overnight, with photos of several officials burned, including Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei and former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.”
University students’ movement continues, including strikes and protests against the arrest of many young people who participated in demonstrations by security forces.
Since Amini was killed on September 16 (2022), three days after the morality police arrested her, protests in the country have not subsided.
“Her death has since sparked anger over several issues, including restrictions on personal freedoms and strict dress codes for women, as well as the living and economic crisis Iranians are suffering from; not to mention the harsh laws imposed by the regime and its political and religious composition in general.”, reports Al Arabiya.
Security forces responded violently to the protesters, killing dozens and arresting hundreds.
As of Friday, 314 protesters, including 47 minors, had been killed in the unrest, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA). “At least 14,170 people, including 392 students, were arrested in protests in 136cities and towns and 134 universities.”
