Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo, 23, set a new half-marathon world record on Sunday, clocking 56 minutes and 42 seconds in Barcelona.
Kiplimo, the previous record holder from 2021 to 2024, became the first athlete to break the 57-minute barrier over the 13.1-mile distance, lowering his own mark by 48 seconds.
His accolades include the 2020 World Half Marathon title, consecutive World Cross Country Championships in 2023 and 2024, and an Olympic bronze in the 10,000 meters at Tokyo 2021.
In Kobe, Japan’s Toshikazu Yamanishi set a new 20 km race walk world record at the Japanese Championships, finishing in 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 10 seconds.
