Morocco urged a diplomatic solution to ensure stability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during a high-level meeting of the African Union’s (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) on Friday in Addis Ababa, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s opposition to separatist movements and stressed the need for unhindered humanitarian aid to support affected civilians.
He called on the international community and regional actors to work together to alleviate suffering and restore hope in the conflict-hit region.
Bourita also commended Angola’s President João Lourenço for his mediation efforts, recognizing his leadership in engaging conflicting parties and preventing further escalation.
“Morocco maintains that only a consensual political solution can resolve the crisis,” Bourita stated, warning that a military or security-based approach would escalate tensions and delay lasting reconciliation.
