A delegation from Yobe State, in Northern Nigeria, has traveled to Morocco to explore a partnership with the world’s largest fertilizer producer, OCP/Jorf Lasfar, in a bid to revive its local fertilizer blending plant, Nigerian media reported on Friday.
Secretary to the State Government Baba Malam Wali led the team. OCP’s Facility Information Officer, Amina Jamaleddine, highlighted the company’s massive production capacity of 15 million tons per year and its extensive global supply network. She said OCP is willing to support Yobe State in restoring its fertilizer facility.
Wali reaffirmed Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to revitalizing the plant, which would support farmers, create jobs, and boost state revenue through agricultural exports.
Commissioner for Agriculture Mustapha Goniri said the plan aligns with the state’s agricultural empowerment program, which has already distributed 100 tractors, solar pumps, and other farm inputs. The government recently acquired an additional 40 tractors to further enhance food security and exports.
The visit included key officials such as the commissioners for Agriculture, Higher Education, Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs. The Chairman of Damaturu Local Government Council also joined the visit.
Buni is also planning a visit to Morocco to explore further collaboration in education and local government investments.
