Royal Air Maroc (RAM) suspended all flights to and from Brussels on Thursday due to a national strike in Belgium amid the country’s pension reforms.
RAM provided its users with multiple compensation methods for people who had purchased the tickets before the announcement. Passengers can choose between a free rebooking in the same class until February 20 or a full refund via the original payment method.
Tens of thousands of Belgians took to the streets on Thursday, with at least 60,000 protesters in Brussels, Reuters reported.
Protesters clashed with riot police outside the headquarters of the liberal center-right party MR, part of the governing coalition in Belgium. Police have used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protests.
According to multiple reports, police have employed similar methods against protesters who have gathered at the headquarters of another coalition member, Les Engages, a Christian Democrat party.
Brussels Airport canceled 430 flights due to the protests. A spokesperson told Reuters that disruptions to air traffic would only last one day.
