Russia’s stand at the 7th Halieutis Fishing Exhibition in Agadir won one of the top awards, marking a significant milestone in the growing fisheries partnership between Russia and Morocco, the Russian Embassy in Morocco announced on its official Facebook account.
Mikhail Tarasov, the representative of Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo) in Morocco, confirmed the award. Tarasov expressed gratitude to Moroccan officials, particularly Zakia Driouch, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, for supporting Russia’s participation.
The award ceremony took place in the presence of Driouch and the Governor of Agadir, Saaïd Amzazi, highlighting the importance of the event for international cooperation.
Tarasov noted that Halieutis continues to grow in popularity and authority among industry professionals, making the recognition even more meaningful.
Russia’s delegation, led by Ilya Shestakov, Head of Rosrybolovstvo, focused on exploring sustainable fishing practices and technological innovations during the exhibition.
The delegation included experts from the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), who discussed fish stock management, research, and port infrastructure development with Moroccan counterparts.
The bilateral fisheries relationship between Russia and Morocco has been strengthened since the signing of a cooperation agreement in 2020.
During the fourth session of the Russian-Moroccan Fisheries Joint Commission in May 2024, both countries agreed to extend the agreement and deepen collaboration in areas like sustainable fishing and aquaculture.
Halieutis 2025, which ran from February 6 to 9, brought together 523 exhibitors from 54 countries. The event showcased Morocco’s efforts to position itself as a global leader in sustainable fishing.
In 2024, Morocco produced 1.42 million tons of seafood, generating MAD 31 billion in exports, solidifying its status as a top African producer.
