Railway users traveling between London’s Clapham Junction and Richmond train stations faced major disruptions on Monday after emergency services responded to a fatal incident on the tracks, according to The Independent.
Some lines were closed between Clapham Junction, Hounslow, and Richmond as authorities dealt with the situation near Barnes railway station, where a person was pronounced dead.
British Transport Police said officers were called to Barnes station at around 7 a.m. following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene,” a police spokesperson told The Independent. “The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Power to the running railway lines in the area was temporarily switched off to allow emergency services to respond.
Until further notice, Barnes station will not operate in either direction.
The disruption affects South Western Railway routes between London Waterloo and Hounslow, Twickenham, Staines, Shepperton, Weybridge, and Reading; and also London Waterloo Circular Services.
According to the rail operator, trains may be canceled, revised, or delayed by up to 60 minutes.
National Rail said tickets would be accepted on London Underground, London Buses, the Elizabeth Line, and Great Western Railway services via reasonable routes.
In a separate incident, overhead wire problems between Cheshunt and Harlow Town caused overnight delays on Stansted Express services.
Trains between Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street were disrupted through the morning, with some services departing nearly an hour late. A “do not travel” warning was issued for Tuesday evening.
While all lines have since reopened, Stansted Express warned of lingering delays, alterations, and cancellations as service returns to normal.
