Russian authorities seized more than 450 illegally circulated diamonds in St. Petersburg and arrested two suspects, Irina Volk, Spokesperson for Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced on Monday via Telegram.
The suspects are believed to have conducted an illegal diamond sale inside an exhibition center on Petersburg Highway, according to preliminary investigations. The transaction was valued at over 5.5 million rubles (USD 56,748).
“During the search, officers confiscated communication devices, computer equipment, over 450 diamonds, more than USD 15,000 in cash, and approximately USD 7,649 USD,” Volk added.
Volk noted that a criminal case has been initiated under Part 4, Article 191 of the Russian Criminal Code, which addresses the illegal trafficking of precious stones and metals.
