A business jet owned by Vince Neil, the lead singer of Mötley Crüe, crashed into another plane while landing in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Monday, killing one person and injuring at least three others, according to media reports.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the Learjet 35A took off from Scottsdale Municipal Airport around 2:45 p.m. (local time). It later collided with a parked Gulfstream 200 business jet, as the small jet’s left landing gear failed upon landing, officials said.
Neil was not on board the plane, which had taken off from Austin, Texas, according to his spokesperson.
Emergency crews treated five people; three were taken to the hospital, and one refused medical help, according to Captain Dave Folio of the Scottsdale Fire Department.
Mötley Crüe initially posted on social media that the pilot had died and that Neil’s girlfriend and her friend were injured. However, that post was later removed and replaced with a statement that did not specify who was on board or who was hurt. The new statement said four people were on the plane, including two pilots and two passengers.
The statement also noted that some details remain unknown as the investigation continues. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is now handling the investigation.
The crash happened shortly after the PGA Tour’s Phoenix Open, one of the busiest times for the airport. Scottsdale Municipal Airport does not have commercial airline services but is used by many corporate aircraft.
