An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Ouezzane province, in northern Morocco, late Monday night, sending tremors across six provinces in southern Spain, including the Costa del Sol, Spanish media reported.
Recorded at a depth of 34 kilometers in the Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the earthquake occurred at 11:48 p.m., according to Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN).
Residents in municipalities across Seville, Cadiz, Malaga, Huelva, Jaen, and Cordoba felt the quake with different intensities. Residents across Seville, and Malaga also reported feeling the tremor.
The 112 Andalucía emergency service received five calls from concerned residents early Tuesday morning.
Despite the widespread tremors, authorities confirmed no reports of injuries or property damage. Officials continue monitoring for any aftershocks, but experts say the seismic activity remains within normal parameters levels for the region.
