Egypt will host an emergency Arab summit in Cairo on February 27 to address developments in the Palestinian territories, following consultations with Bahrain, the current president of the Arab League, and other Arab nations, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
The summit will address key issues related to the Palestinian cause, especially following recent controversial remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Thursday, Netanyahu suggested Palestinians establish a state in Saudi Arabia instead of their homeland, claiming the kingdom has enough land for such a purpose.
Saudi Arabia condemned Netanyahu’s comments on Sunday, calling them “unacceptable.”
The proposal follows a February 4 statement by US President Donald Trump, in which he suggested Washington could “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere, turning the enclave into a luxury destination.
Trump’s plan has drawn widespread criticism from Palestinians, Arab countries, and the governments of Canada, France, Germany, and the UK among others.
