Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for starring in the popular TV drama “Meteor Garden,” has died of pneumonia at the age of 48, BBC reported.
Hsu, better known as Da S, is one of the biggest stars in the Mandarin-speaking parts of Asia and beyond. According to her younger sister, she caught the flu when she visited Japan with her family during the Chinese New Year.
“I am grateful that in this lifetime I was able to be her sister, taking care of each other and being companions. I will forever be thankful for her and miss her!” Dee Hsu said in a statement on Monday.
Hsu’s sudden death shocked her fans in Taiwan and China, where many grew up watching her shows since the beginning of her career. The exact time and place in which Hsu died is unknown.
The star’s career at 17 as a pop duo with her sister Dee and quickly garnered fame as a TV hosts, known for their animated style and sense of humor.
