Swedish-Danish Islamophobic politician and leader of the Stram Kurs anti-immigration party, Rasmus Paludan, burned a copy of the Quran on Saturday in front of the Turkish embassy in Copenhagen, local media reported.
Paludan’s Quran burning came just days after the killing of Salwan Momika on Wednesday. Momika was an Iraqi anti-Islam activist who had burned Islam’s holy book outside Stockholm Central Mosque in 2023 and repeated the Islamophobic act multiple times.
Videos shared on X show Paludan burning a copy of the Quran while holding another one in his hand, informing his viewers that he was planning to burn both copies despite the Copenhagen police banning him from carrying out such an act.
Paludan said that his demonstration was held in honor of Momika’s memory, and he called the Quran a “horrible, evil book.”
Despite claiming his support of Momika, an Iraqi national, Paludan’s party, Stram Kurs, is calling for the deportation of all “non-Western individuals granted asylum” in Sweden and an outright ban on Islam.
