Morocco’s national prison administration reported 122 measles cases in prisons as of Thursday. Among the affected individuals, 105 have recovered, leaving 17 active cases, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Authorities placed four inmates in medical isolation at “Tangier 2” prison and three at “Souk El Arbaa” prison. In addition, two cases were recorded at Mohammedia prison and “Arjat 2” prison.
One case was reported in each of the following facilities: “Benslimane,” “Arjat 1,” “Aït Melloul 2,” “Bourkaiz” (Fes), “Oued Zem,” and “Azrou” prisons.
Thirteen prison employees also contracted measles. Eight have recovered, while five remain infected.
To curb the outbreak, the delegation collaborated with the Ministry of Health to launch a vaccination campaign. Over 62,100 inmates, including all prisoners under 18, received voluntary vaccinations.
In addition, 1,901 prison staff members were vaccinated, even in facilities with no reported cases.
