US authorities have recovered the black boxes of both the passenger plane and the military helicopter that collided over the Potomac River killing all 67 on board both aircraft, as concerns rise over the circumstances of the deadly crash, Reuters reported.
Divers recovered the black boxes of the American Airlines plane as efforts continued to “salvage the aircraft” and find additional components. The so-called black boxes contain both a flight data recorder and a cockpit voice recorder, which may allow investigators to understand the circumstances of the collision.
“Overnight, boats will remain on scene for security and surface searches from local, state, and federal regional partners,” Washington’s fire department told Reuters.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently studying the cockpit voice recorder and flight data of the airplane, which was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, all of whom died in the crash.
US authorities have not yet indicated a reason for the collision, which happened as the CRJ700 jet was attempting to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
