Egyptian football giants Al Ahly have secured Moroccan international Achraf Bencharki on a two-and-a-half-year deal, the Transfer Market announced on Thursday.
The winger joins from Qatari team Al-Rayyan, where he contributed ten goals and assists in 16 games this season.
Bencharki brings extensive African football experience, having previously played for Zamalek and Wydad Casablanca.
He joins countrymen Yahia Attiat-Allah, Achraf Dari, and Reda Slim.
Al Ahly’s move for Bencharki comes amid a busy winter transfer window. The club, currently third in the Egyptian Premier League and second in their CAF Champions League group, is strengthening its squad after a shaky start to the season. Head coach Marcel Koller pushed for reinforcements, leading to several key signings.
In the Egyptian Championship, Al-Ahly is in 3rd place with 20 points (5 wins, 5 draws).
The club first replaced departing players Kahraba and Youssef Aymen by signing Mostafa El Aash from ZED FC and Slovenian international Nejc Gradisar.
It also added Ahmed Reda to bolster the midfield, following a recommendation from B Team coach Rabie Yassin. Reda’s arrival comes as Akram Tawfik considers a move to Al-Shamal SC.
Al Ahly continues to pursue additional targets, including Dereck Kutesa and Ewerton, to meet Koller’s requirements. If those deals fall through, club legend Ali Maaloul remains an option for re-signing.
The Moroccan player’s return to African football adds depth and experience to the team as it pushes for silver this season.
