The UEFA Champions League Matchday 8 will cram together 18 games, all kicking off at once scheduled for 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
That unprecedented number of simultaneous matches will bring together 36 teams in one day, highlighting some of the changes that came with the new Swiss format of the Champions League.
Although it is standard for the final day of group stages in competitions to start their matches at the same time, all 36 teams lined up for the league phase have no choice but to play their games simultaneously, CBS Sports reported.
Previous matchdays, such as Tuesday’s featured nine games and nine more on Wednesday, with two games each day beginning in the early 5:45 p.m. slot and the remaining seven at 8:00 p.m.
However, on Wednesday, all matches will take place in the late-night time window, setting the stage for a high-stakes evening of action.
