Heavy snowfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds will sweep across several provinces in Morocco from Wednesday to Friday, according to the country’s meteorological agency (DGM).
Snowfall could build to 25 to 50 cm on Thursday in the provinces of Ifrane, Khenifra, Sefrou, Al-Haouz, Midelt, Boulemane, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Taza, and Guercif. The alert level for these areas has been raised to amber.
A lighter snowfall of 5 to 10 cm is expected in Figuig, Jerada, Taourirt, Al Hoceima, and Chefchaouen during the same period.
Meanwhile, heavy thunderstorms will drench the northern provinces. Tanger, Tetouan, Fahs-Anjra, M’Diq-Fnideq, Larache, and Chefchaouen will experience downpours between 20 to 35 mm from Wednesday evening until Thursday morning.
The storm system will shift on Thursday to Taza, Khemisset, Meknes, El-Hajeb, Sefrou, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Moulay Yacoub, and Khouribga, where similar rainfall amounts are expected.
Strong winds reaching 75 to 90 km/h will hit Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, and Taza from Wednesday night until Thursday morning. On Thursday, gusty winds will extend to Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Zagora, Midelt, Sefrou, Ifrane, Azilal, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Al-Haouz, Assa-Zag, Figuig, Taourirt, Guercif, and Boulemane.
On Friday, fresh snowfall between 15 to 30 cm will hit Boulemane, Khenifra, Sefrou, Ifrane, Midelt, and Azilal, while Jerada, Figuig, and Taourirt will see between 5 to 10 cm of snow.
