Morocco’s Royal Navy rescued crew members aboard two separate foreign vessels on Tuesday near the port of Mohammedia, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces cited by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
The first vessel named “The Linden,” sailing under the flag of St. Kitts & Nevis had suffered engine failure in the morning, approximately 2.5 kilometers southeast of the Mohammedia port. Upon receiving a distress signal, the Royal Navy swiftly dispatched a helicopter to evacuate two critically ill crew members from the vessel. A naval unit was also deployed to monitor the distressed ship and provide necessary assistance, according to MAP.
Later in the day, the Royal Navy received another distress signal from the Chinese cargo ship “The Tai Hua Wan.” The Royal Navy helicopter dispatched another helicopter to evacuate three critically ill crew members to a medical facility, according to MAP.
Morocco’s Royal Gendarmerie and the Search and Rescue Coordination Center collaborated on the rescue efforts. The evacuated crew were transported to civil protection authorities to receive urgent medical care.
