Casablanca police arrested a 30-year-old man on Monday evening who is suspected of multiple crimes, including premeditated murder and illicit drug trafficking, local media reported.
According to security sources, Morocco’s Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST) provided local authorities with precise intel on the suspect and his location, who was arrested in the city of El Jadida.
Preliminary investigations highlighted that the suspect was actively involved in distributing various narcotics, including “bofa,” cocaine, and psychoactive pills, in Douar Khalif in the Khayyata area near Berrechid, northern Morocco.
Authorities issued 49 national search warrants against the suspect, 46 of which were issued by the Royal Gendarmerie and three by the authorities in Rahma, Casablanca, and the Sidi Slimane Police Department.
Further checks in the national wanted persons database indicated that the suspect was also involved in a homicide investigation.
The murder reportedly occurred on the night of January 11-12 over a dispute involving illicit drug and psychoactive substance trafficking.
A subsequent police search uncovered a large sum of money hidden in the suspect’s residence at the time of the arrest. The cash is suspected to be proceeds from illegal activities, according to the same source.
The suspect is currently in custody pending further investigation.
