A teachers’ union called for a fresh round of protests next Saturday, February 1, outside the Ministry of National Education headquarters in Rabat, accusing the government of “backtracking” on previous agreements, according to a statement posted on Facebook.
The teachers demand immediate action to address their unresolved grievances, which they describe as “urgent” and “long overdue.”
In the statement, the union criticized officials’ “stalling tactics,” explaining that such strategies have prolonged the injustice educators face. “This backtracking threatens to erase the progress achieved through prior agreements,” the statement warned.
The teachers demand promotions to grade 11 without quotas, “retroactive” administrative and financial compensation, and “reparations” for those still “trapped” in grade 10.
The union calls on the government to uphold the agreements reached after January 9, describing them as “fundamental rights rather than negotiable privileges.”
The union also opposed proposals restricting strike laws and plans to merge the public and private social funds, CNOPS and CNSS, which it claimed would undermine workers’ benefits.
