Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has described the upcoming final draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday in Rabat as “exciting,” predicting that this year’s tournament will be the most successful and thrilling yet, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
“The AFCON 2025 draw, set to take place Monday evening in Rabat, will be an exciting moment as everyone eagerly awaits to see the host nation’s opponents,” said Motsepe upon his arrival at Rabat-Salé Airport on Sunday evening, according to the same source.
Motsepe thanked King Mohammed VI for supporting the development of African football. “We deeply value the efforts of His Majesty in advancing the sport across the continent,” he said.
He also commended Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), for his “remarkable work in promoting football for the benefit of the Moroccan people and all Africans.”
“When nations like Morocco excel, all of Africa takes pride,” Motsepe noted, recognizing Morocco’s potential to deliver an exciting hosting of the tournament this year.
He also took a trip down memory lane, remembering Morocco’s stellar performance in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, becoming the first African national team to reach the semi-finals.
He described Morocco as a source of inspiration for African football. “Morocco showed us the way in Qatar, and I am confident that African teams will shine at the 2026 World Cup,” he said.
Motsepe also celebrated Morocco’s joint hosting of the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. The 2023 games will mark the second time the tournament will be hosted in Africa following the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The AFCON 2025 draw will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, a moment eagerly anticipated by football fans across Africa.
