Authorities have arrested a National Police officer, a Civil Guard, and five others in occupied Melilla on charges of facilitating illegal immigration by forging documents, Spanish media reported on Friday.
The suspects, including a registered administrative manager, are accused of crimes against the rights of foreign citizens, forging documents, and participating in a criminal organization.
On Wednesday, investigators searched two homes and seized EUR 30,000 in cash. Officials indicated that the criminal network allegedly used fake employment contracts to smuggle Moroccan nationals into Spain as domestic workers. All seven detainees appeared in court on Friday and were released on bail.
The operation closely follows another recent crackdown in Melilla, where police arrested four individuals, including a repeat-offender consultant. The group reportedly used false housing lease agreements to obtain government benefits to bypass immigration law.
