Meta announced plans to spend USD 65 billion this year to upgrade its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to cement the company’s position as a leading AI firm, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Friday, Reuters reported.
One of the biggest purchasers of Nvidia’s new, sought-after AI chips, Meta intends to bring roughly 1 GW of processing power online in 2025 and hopes to finish the year with over 1.3 million graphics processors.
“This will be a defining year for AI,” Zuckerberg said on Facebook. “This is a massive effort, and over the coming years it will drive our core products and business.”
Following the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, many tech companies have been spending tens of billions of dollars to build AI infrastructure.
Meta’s announcement came a few days after US President Donald Trump announced that OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle will co-fund a new AI venture called “Stargate” and invest USD 500 billion in the project.
