Morocco will require about 40,000 volunteers to support the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Minister Delegate for the Budget and Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) President Fouzi Lekjaa said Thursday, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
The tournament will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Speaking at Morocco’s Employers’ Association (CGEM) workshop on the 2025 Finance Bill, Lekjaa said preparations are underway to finalize logistical and operational plans for the World Cup.
He announced a partnership with Mohammed VI University to provide specialized training for volunteers to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills. Training will cover roles such as airport reception, guest assistance, and event coordination.
According to Lekjaa, 32 Moroccan cities will be involved in tournament operations. While matches will primarily take place in Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Marrakesh, and Agadir, other cities will host team base camps and training sites.
The tournament will follow a decentralized model, allowing teams to stay in Morocco while playing matches in Spain or Portugal.
Lekjaa said the joint hosting with Spain and Portugal is intended to deliver a world-class tournament. He highlighted the World Cup’s potential to enhance Morocco’s sports infrastructure, showcase its cities on a global stage, and reinforce its position as a major international sports hub.
