Driss El Alouani of Agadir Vélo Propulsion, a Moroccan cycling team, won the third stage of the Tour du Sahel in Mauritania on Friday. The stage covered a challenging 102 km route between the Mauritanian towns of Atar and Choum.
El Alouani crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 7 seconds, narrowly edging out teammate Kamal Mahroug.
In the overall standings, Moroccan cyclist Zouhair Rahil, riding for the Sidi Ali Unlock cycling team finished in third place, just five seconds behind Dutch cyclist Stefan Verhoeff, who had a total time of 7 hours, 51 seconds.
Agadir Vélo Propulsion teams led the chart with a cumulative time of 21 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds, followed by Sidi Ali Unlock, trailing by 6 minutes and 18 seconds.
The fourth stage, spanning 79 km, will take riders from Yaghref to Akjoujt on Saturday.
This fifth edition of the Tour du Sahel is part of the Union Cycliste Internationale’s 2.2 calendar and runs from January 22 to 26, covering a total distance of 460 km across five stages.
