The Spanish government has allocated EUR 850,000 to fund ten ambulances for Morocco to support the country’s border management efforts, according to Spanish media.
Implemented through the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), the initiative is part of a broader initiative funded by the European Union.
The FIIAPP has launched the bidding process for the contract under its “Support for Integrated Border and Migration Management” project (EUTF-NOA-MA-05). The contract is to be completed within seven months. Companies have until February 21 to submit bids.
Under a total budget of EUR 44 million, the EU-backed project focuses on enhancing Morocco’s ability to manage maritime borders, conduct sea rescues, and protect vulnerable migrants.
The initiative includes providing vehicles and tools to strengthen border control operations. In recent years, Spain has supplied Morocco with various vehicles, including SUVs, motorcycles, and off-road buggies, as part of this program.
The allocation is not unprecedented. In June 2024, the Sánchez administration allocated EUR 3.6 million toward providing Morocco with vehicles including 33 buggies – lightweight automobiles with off-road capabilities-, 10 ambulances, and 183 motorcycles. Likewise, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Spain supplied 130 SUVs for similar purposes.
