The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy announced on Thursday an ambitious project to revitalize 16 tourist villages across various regions of the country, local media reported.
With a total budget of MAD 188 million (USD 18 million), the initiative aims to promote rural tourism, create sustainable jobs, and contribute to local socio-economic development, the ministry said in a statement.
Implemented in collaboration with the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development (SMIT), the program is part of the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap.
It focuses on enhancing existing infrastructure and building new tourist facilities, including accommodations, cultural sites, and recreational amenities, in line with sustainable tourism principles.
The project will feature four strategic partnerships with prominent national and international stakeholders, including Club Med, Marriott, Experiencia, and Madaef. These collaborations will bring expertise to ensure the project’s success and alignment with Morocco’s broader development goals.
