Morocco’s National Coordination of Former Soldiers, Veterans, and Beneficiaries (Q.A.Q.M) held a protest on Thursday in front of the Parliament building in Rabat, calling for urgent increases in their pensions and improved social conditions amidst rising living costs and declining purchasing power affecting many Moroccans.
Demonstrators chanted slogans urging authorities to address their demands without delay and denounced the “marginalization” they say has persisted under successive governments, local media reported.
Those protesting underscored the sacrifices they made for Morocco and highlighted the need for pension increases to address the economic and social hardships faced by this group.
Mohamed Abbassi, a veteran, stated that the protest was part of an ongoing effort to secure rights that “have been delayed for far too long,” he told reporters.
Abbassi expressed frustration over years of unanswered appeals to successive governments and relevant institutions.
“It is unacceptable for veterans, military retirees, widows of fallen soldiers, and other beneficiaries to take to the streets to demand rights that should be safeguarded by the state,” Abbassi said.
