Four Moroccan truck drivers kidnapped in the border region between Burkina Faso and Niger remain captive despite earlier reports suggesting they had been released, according to a Moroccan diplomatic source in Niamey cited by outlet “Le360.”
The truck drivers were abducted on Saturday while traveling on a route known for its high-security risks. While various sources had previously claimed that the drivers had been located and were en route to Niger’s capital, a Moroccan diplomat in Niamey has denied the accuracy of the reports.
The Moroccan Foreign Ministry, which has established a crisis cell to handle the situation, has yet to officially confirm the drivers’ release.
The kidnapped drivers were abducted on a road connecting Dori, Burkina Faso, and Tera, Niger, an area notorious for its instability and the presence of armed groups. The region is often referred to as the “three borders” due to its proximity to Mali and has witnessed numerous attacks on civilians and security forces.
