Spain’s Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Elma Saiz, highlighted the successful cooperation between Morocco and Spain on circular migration, particularly through the “Wafira” program, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
The “Wafira” program focuses on promoting women’s entrepreneurship among seasonal migrant workers from rural Moroccan communities.
Saiz highlighted the program as an example of Morocco and Spain’s successful partnership, reportedly benefitting 209 Moroccan women by arming them with the skills to contribute to their local communities.
“This model of cooperation benefits both Morocco and Spain,” Saiz told MAP, underscoring the need to sustain and expand these collaborative efforts for more effective management of human mobility.
Saiz’s visit highlights the importance of fostering productive migration policies, such as circular migration, as part of Morocco and Spain’s bilateral relations, which are also built on “robust economic and trade exchanges.”
The minister is now looking at assessing the program and exploring possibilities for scaling it, which demonstrates its effectiveness for both countries, Saiz concluded.
