Newly inaugurated U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the launch of “Stargate,” a new initiative to expand the United States’ artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, international media reported.
The project is intended to strengthen AI capabilities through investments by tech giants OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, which will fund the construction of data centers and other facilities across the country.
Trump touted the project as the “largest AI infrastructure in history,” revealing that each company will contribute $100 billion to launch the initiative, with an additional $500 billion planned over the coming years, according to CNN.
The project is expected to create 100,000 jobs, although Trump did not specify a timeline for achieving this goal. Stargate will focus on building both physical and virtual infrastructure to support the next generation of AI development.
Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison confirmed that construction of the project’s infrastructure has already begun in Texas.
