Morocco’s Lower House Speaker, Rachid Talbi Alami, held bilateral meetings on Tuesday in Can Tho, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with Tran Thanh Man, President of the National Assembly, and Lê Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The meetings were part of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophone session taking place from January 21 to 24.
The discussions focused on the historical relations between Morocco and Vietnam, highlighting the major projects led by Morocco, particularly in agricultural development, renewable energy, food security, and combating climate change, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Both sides highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral parliamentary relations and exchanging experiences between legislative bodies, based on mutual respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
They explored ways to activate parliamentary cooperation through exchanging visits, ongoing dialogue, and shared experiences, in line with the cooperation agreement signed on December 18, 2017.
In the meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, the importance of the agricultural sector in both countries’ economies was discussed, with a focus on sharing experiences and expertise to promote sustainable development.
Talbi Alami highlighted Morocco’s efforts in agriculture, renewable energy, food and water security, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The Moroccan official also underscored the role of the Lower House in supporting these initiatives through legislation, oversight, and public policy evaluation, as outlined in the 2011 Constitution.
The meetings were attended by Latifa Belahij, representing the Parliamentary Network of Francophone Women, Jamal Shaibi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Vietnam, and Ahmed Ait Issa, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Moroccan Embassy in Hanoi.
