Morocco prevented 78,685 irregular migration attempts in 2024 through its efficient border and coastal surveillance systems, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Authorities intercepted 58% of migrants from West African nations, 12% from Maghreb countries, and 9% from East and Central Africa.
They dismantled 332 human trafficking networks in 2024, highlighting the evolving strategies of these criminal organizations. In Sebta and Melilla, law enforcement intercepted 14 incursions and attempted incursions involving more than 4,290 migrants.
As part of Morocco’s humanitarian border management approach, 18,645 migrants were rescued at sea and provided with medical care, housing, and support.
The authorities facilitated the voluntary return of 6,135 irregular migrants to their home countries in coordination with their diplomatic representatives.
