Moroccan cyclist Ibrahim Essabahy came in second in the first stage of the Tour du Sahel in Mauritania on Wednesday, traversing a 109 km route from Bourjeimatt to Akjoujt, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
Riding for the Agadir Vélo Propulsion team, Essabahy finished with the same time as Spanish rider Francisco Mancebo of the Al-Raed Saudi Club, both clocking in at 2h 27:29.
In the team rankings, Agadir Vélo Propulsion is now in the lead after this stage, with a total time of 7h 28:38, ahead of Universe Cycling Team from the Netherlands by 20 seconds and Morocco’s Sidi Ali Unlock by 57 seconds.
The second stage is scheduled for Thursday, covering a 74 km route from Yaghref to Aoujeft.
The Tour du Sahel, listed under the Union Cycliste Internationale’s category 2.2, spans five stages that take place from January 22 to 26, covering a total distance of 460 km.
