Morocco’s tourism revenue is projected to surpass MAD 110 billion in 2024, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, said during a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Ammor highlighted that Morocco achieved record-breaking numbers in 2024, welcoming 17.4 million tourists, a 20% increase compared to 2023 and a 35% rise from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
She also noted that the tourism sector currently employs 827,000 individuals, with 25,000 new jobs created in the past year.
Ammor explained that the increase in job creation includes a MAD 2 billion emergency plan and the implementation of a new tourism roadmap with a budget of MAD 6.1 billion.
As part of preparations for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the government has launched the “Cap Hospitality” program.
It modernizes classified tourist accommodations, with plans to renovate 25,000 rooms through a MAD 2 billion investment, the same source said.
Domestic tourism has also emerged as a cornerstone of the industry. In 2024, Moroccan tourists accounted for 8.5 million overnight stays in rated hotels, representing 30% of total stays in these establishments.
