American Senator Marco Rubio became President Donald Trump’s first cabinet nominee after he was sworn in as the 72nd US Secretary of State on Tuesday.
Rubio is a long-time senator from Florida; he served from 2011 to 2025 as a United States senator from Florida and from 2006 to 2008 as the speaker of the Florida Lower House.
The Senate unanimously confirmed Rubio’s appointment as Secretary of State on Monday evening, making him the first confirmed cabinet member of Trump’s second administration.
He is a Cuban American son of refugees and is the first Hispanic American to hold the position of Secretary of State.
After he was sworn in, Rubio gave remarks in Spanish, thanking his parents, who came to the US in 1956.
