Morocco’s total storage capacity for fuel reached 1.56 million tons as of September 2024, with diesel accounting for 88% of the total, marking an increase of 4.2% compared to Q2 of 2024, according to Morocco’s Competition Council’s Q3 report.
The report monitors wholesale distributors of diesel and gasoline commitments under transactional agreements with the Council, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
The combined storage capacity of the nine companies included in the report is at approximately 1.27 million tons, representing 81.7% of the market’s total capacity.
Regarding distribution, no new operators entered the market during Q3 of 2024.
The Ministry of Energy issued the last authorization in October 2023, bringing the total number of provisional licenses for liquid petroleum product distribution to 35—unchanged from the end of June 2024.
The report forms part of the ongoing monitoring of commitments made by nine active companies in the diesel and gasoline markets. These commitments are outlined in agreements with the Competition Council and include seven key measures.
The council mandates that each company submit quarterly updates on their supply, storage, and distribution activities for diesel and gasoline, ensuring transparency and compliance with the agreements.
