Chinese owned online store “AliExpress” will introduce Moroccan Dirham (MAD) payment options for those in Morocco starting in February.
The addition of the Moroccan Dirham as a payment option will allow Moroccan-based consumers to access its vast product list, following similar initiatives with other African nations.
Under the new system, users will be able to make purchases directly in Moroccan dirhams through local payment partners, simplifying transactions and cutting costs associated with currency conversion.
Morocco is a strategic priority for AliExpress in Africa. The retailer platform has forged partnerships with local telecom and electronic payment operators, allowing it to better cater to the specific needs of the Moroccan market.
However, imported products purchased from abroad through the app are still subject to expensive customs charges and taxes, barring many Moroccans from directly ordering from apps such as AliExpress.
