Chief Justice John Roberts swore in US Republican President Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States on Monday. During his inauguration address, Trump pledged to usher in “the golden age of America.”
Americans are expecting him to sign off on a number of executive actions, including ending birthright citizenship and declaring a state of national emergency on the US-Mexico border.
Trump is also poised to pardon some of the January 6 rioters, who swarmed the Capitol Building in 2021 in an attempted self-coup d’état, two months after he lost the 2020 presidential elections to Democrat Joe Biden.
Several former presidents, political leaders, and influential billionaires attended the inauguration ceremony, including Amazon Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos, Tesla Inc., SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta.
